Assignment 1

My name is Joseph D'Asaro, and I am a Film major. I am taking this class because I've always liked advertising and design. I wouldn't consider myself a rabid fan, I'm not the kinda person who watches the Superbowl for commercials, but I sometimes get excited to see new ads on tv and print. Some recent ad campaigns I like are the "Allstate Mayhem Commercials," "The Social Network," "The Old Spice," and the "Tron: Legacy" viral campaign.

This is an ad for a screening of Dirty Harry I have in my room. It is for the Alamo Draft House Rolling Roadshow, a series of outdoor movie screenings that took place where they were filmed and it is done by Olly Moss, one of my favorite designers. I like this poster because of it's simplicity. The gun and the face of Clint Eastwood are icons to the movie and when i saw the poster i had to have it.

This ad in for "Abilify" is what i dont like to see in ads: lots, and lots of text and unnecessary pictures that have nothing to do with the product. The picture of the woman is an actor portrayal and there is no reason to put her there. Why do advertisers add these pictures?
